So, when did baking really begin you ask? Well, that’s a hard question to answer. But what we can tell you is that it’s been around for about 14,000 years roughly! No wonder baking feels so natural to a human being these days. The world’s first oven is said to be over 6,500 years old!
Most archaeologists say that baking bread goes back to the time of the ancient Greeks. The first people to use yeast were the Egyptians to make their bread. What about cake? Well, we know that the word came into use in the 13th century.
Cakes in the early days were actually sweetened bread. The chef would add either sugar or honey for sweetness. As the ingredients grew cheaper through the years, cakes evolved into being what it tastes like and feels like today.
