Yes, you thought right, there are several types of bread as well. Surely, you are going to find bread more interesting once you’ve got through this list of amazing different variations that exist to the ordinary mix of flour, yeast, and water.

Banana Bread

This is quite a popular type of bread even in Sri Lanka. Banana bread is fruity and airy and moister than the usual loaf. This is because the recipe requires baking soda which gives it a soft, melt-in-the-mouth texture.

Baguette

When you think of the Eiffel Tower and all things French, surely this stick-like bread pops into mind as well. Yes, the baguette originated in France and is loved by many for its tough and chewy exterior and airsoft centre.

Breadsticks

This is much smaller than any other bread type and is crispy and dry in texture. This is a common appetizer in Italian restaurants. Some eateries have their own little variations where breadsticks are server with garlic or cheese. Some are even served sweet with cinnamon and icing.

Brioche

This version of bread has a lovely subtle sweetness to it with egg and butter added to the mix as well. The word brioche goes back to 1404 and is used for hamburgers, as dinner rolls with soup, and even in French toast.

Challah

Strangely enough, this is a type of bread that actually has some religious significance. It is made with egg and is moist and light. the dough is braided as well. This is a type of bread that the Jewish eat on the sabbath day.

Pita Bread

That yummy shawarma that you enjoyed…yes, that wrap was a flatbread called pita bread. It is a much-loved treat served with fresh ingredients as stuffing. Pita bread goes back nearly 4000 years and originated in Arabia.
