A Much-Loved Indian Dish – Poori

If you are one of those who love Indian food, you must have desperately wanted to try an authentic Indian Poori recipe to satisfy your cravings. Since that’s what you are dreaming of, that’s what we plan on giving you right now! Here is a simple genuine Indian Poori recipe to try out at home especially for your Deepavali table.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup 7 Star Chakki Atta Flour
  • 1 teaspoon oil
  • Salt to taste
  • ¼ cup + 2 tablespoons water
  • Oil for deep frying

Method

  1. Mix the Chakki Atta Flour and salt in a bowl.
  2. Take a teaspoon of oil and rub it between your thumb and fingers. Add water a little at a time and start kneading the dough.
  3. Once the dough is smooth and soft (but not too soft), it is time to cover it with a clean napkin and leave it to rest for 15 – 20 minutes.
  4. After letting the dough rest, knead it well so it becomes even smoother. Once the dough is at just the right consistency, divide it into 12 equal parts, and make them into little balls. If you need more than 12 servings, you can multiply the ingredients by 2 or 3 times more.
  5. Take each ball and flatten it between your palms, keep all the parts of flattened dough under a napkin so that they don’t dry up.
  6. Put some oil in a frying pan and leave it to heat. While the oil heats, roll out each piece of dough into discs about 3 inches in diameter. If the dough tends to stick on the rolling pin or board, grease them with oil but do not sprinkle flour.
  7. When the oil is hot enough, slide one part of rolled dough into the pan and gently press the frying spoon against it while it fries. Within a few seconds, the dough will begin to puff out.
  8. Once the dough puffs out and there aren’t any more air bubbles forming, flip the poori and fry the other side as well till its golden brown.
  9. Place it on a paper towel once done so that the oil gets absorbed before serving.
